John Venhuizen Honorary Scholarship

Award Amount:  $1000

Application Deadline:  April 9, 2021.  4:30pm.  Applications received after this date will not be considered. 

The Gallatin Conservation District announces the availability of a $1000 scholarship in honor of long time Gallatin Conservation District board member and rancher, John Venhuizen.  This scholarship is available to a graduate of the 2021 academic year from a Gallatin County high school.

Eligibility Rules and General Information

  • Scholarship will be awarded to a Gallatin County graduating senior, enrolling full time in a MT post-secondary school.
  • Graduate plans to pursue a degree related to conservation, natural resources, or agriculture.
  • Application must be completed and submitted via email, postal mail, or dropped off at Gallatin Conservation District, 120 S. 5th Suite 104, Manhattan, MT.
  • Scholarship recipient will be selected by GCD’s board of supervisors on the basis of academic achievement, educational goals, extracurricular activities and any additional criteria as may be deemed appropriate by the board.

  • Cover Letter
  • Completed Application Form  Application Form
  • 2 letters of reference (not from immediate family members) to include name, relationship, and contact information.
  • A 500-word essay explaining what conservation means to you.

Montana Association of Conservation Districts Scholarships

MACD will be awarding two $750 scholarships and one $500 scholarship to Montana students. High school seniors or students who are attending an accredited post secondary institution in Montana may apply.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • US citizenship,
  • Montana residency,
  • minimum grade point average of 3.0, and
  • enrollment or plans to enroll in a course of study that allows students to explore natural resource issues. Appropriate courses of study include agriculture, agribusiness, animal science, range science, forestry, environmental science, land resource science, plant science, etc.

Students may receive a scholarship both as a high school senior and once during post secondary career.

The deadline for 2020 scholarships is February 19, 2021.
